We are proud to announce that Core Cryolab opened a second state-of-the-art facility! After a decade and a half of operating within Toronto General Hospital, we filled the biorepository and outgrew our shipping operations space.
Two years ago, we began exploring options to expand to a second location. We found a facility in Mississauga near Pearson International Airport, which will support the continual growth of our shipping operations and has lots of extra space for our second biorepository.
The new site was an empty shell which allowed Core to design a purpose-built facility to support our requirements. Now complete, it has the capacity to house 80 large LN2 freezers which can hold more than nine million 2ml vials of samples.
The site replicates the 24-7-365 security monitoring and sophisticated access control systems of our hospital facility. Every feature in the new space was designed with sample safety in mind including our dual redundant monitoring systems, 9,000-gallon LN2 supply tank, back-up generator, and on-site validated emergency back-up freezer.
Core Cryolab’s shipping operations have been laid out with efficiency and quality controls in mind. The facility gives us a sixfold increase in space for shipping, which allows us to continue to increase our shipping volumes and support larger clients. We are happy to report this move has already allowed us to expand our shipping fleet by over 35% and better support client demand.
We know Covid-19 has caused some big challenges over the last year, we look forward to when lockdowns are a thing of the past and the world returns to some semblance of normal. When this happens, we look forward to inviting you to visit our new facility!
